JUSTEMILIEU
Justemilieu is a visual search for the visual average of a city. The overlays of the individual motifs create an intermediate motif, an almost invisible view of city, which is composed of many different motifs. It creates a picture that oscillates between the real sights and a surreal overall impression. In her work Virginia Garfunkel search for visual insights. How strongly is the cliché of tourist cityscapes imprinted in our visual perception? The process of photographing the individual pictures was like being a tourist: head to the building, click once, then on to the next attraction. Do we recognize from the sum of all the sights nor the shape of each city? It emerges from the sum of the photographs rather a graphic-looking image that carries much in itself but is not enough, a hint of a city.
